Best Berry Farm

I went strawberry picking for the first time in my life, at Best Berry Farm on Best Road in East Greenbush. Established during a great year, 1979 (the year of my birth), it’s close to the capital district and on my way home so I have been eager to stop in and try it. It was a fantastic experience and awesome to taste the fruits of some one else’s labor. (thank you!)

Really though, bending over for an hour in strawberry fields leaves you a bit achey, and thankful for farmers who make this happen every season. I’m thankful my 2.5 year old didn’t mind bending over to pick the majority of our strawberry harvest. Child labor at its best. The farm is a manageable size, they are super friendly, and I’m pretty sure they harvest other types of berries and apples in the fall. Check them out.

Strawberry season ends soon. I urge you to pick your own. Call ahead for hours (usually 8 am-5pm daily). 518-286-0607.

Don’t forget the many varietal uses of strawberries. Of course, as they are is a perfectly acceptable way to enjoy them. You can make jam or add them to a salad. Or, our favorite, add tequila and ice, and blend, and you’ll have a delicious, fresh summer cocktail. Don’t forget, you can freeze them!
