Last week I did something I almost never do.
Actually, let me start again.
Last week I did something I have never done before.
I went to see a musical at Capital Rep in Albany, NY.
You know, Capital Rep? The theatre in that weird parking garage on Pearl Street near The Bayou Cafe?
The one without the huge marquis sign?
Capital Rep!?? C’mon. You know it. It’s the theater where they had that show…. um……. uhhh. Oh God, I can’t think of one right now.
anyway
I don’t know what it is about Capital Rep, but I just hadn’t thought of going there before for some reason. It just hadn’t been on my gaydar radar.
But last week, I saw an ad for a musical called The Single Girls Guide. It looked fun, and I was in town that night, and I had some friends visiting from NYC so I thought, “I’m gonna take these guys to see that new musical at Capital Rep.”
I swear, I have zero reason to blow so much smoke up Capital Rep’s ass, but I fucking loved that musical.
We all did.
Normally I feel that musicals are about 7 songs too long, but this one felt quick paced. The music was amazing. The story was clever. The actors were perfectly cast. Especially Robb Sapp and Farah Alvin. They were really great.
My only complaint was that I wish they didn’t kill off the main character in the end.
(just kidding).
Anyway, after seeing the show, I called Capital Rep to see if they would let me give away a couple tickets to the show… which they were nice enough to do.
So, I have two tickets to go see The Single Girls Guide at Capital Rep for you and a date.
I will also throw in 2 dinners at The Olde English Pub for you to enjoy before the show.
Even if you don’t win this prize, you should 100% buy tickets to go see this show. IT’S ONLY PLAYING UNTIL THE END OF MARCH, and then it’s over. :(
It was written and performed for Albany only at this point, so I highly recommend you go see it while it lasts.
If you’d like to win this prize, tell me why you should win it and we’ll give the two tickets away to the best winner.

My 23 year old daughter and I have a pretty close relationship. We like to go out and enjoy all that Albany and surrounding areas have to offer. We recently saw Newsies in NYC and well it was less then thrilling. So I’d love to spend some time with my daughter seeing a Great show and having dinner together to relax and talk. Simple mom and daughter time. Priceless.

Mostly because I could really use a night out, and me and my single gal friend would love to see this show (and find out of its based on our lives!)

I should win because I also dislike babies and kittens, and love all puppy dogs. That is all.

Because this would give me an opportunity to do something un-single ;) Not to mention, thought about going to Olde English Pub all week, but timing and weather keep preventing me from going!

Because I’m a single girl who can’t flirt without my winky face emoticon. Also, free dinner means more money for pickle-back shots before the show!

I always enjoy a night out on the town. And most importantly I’m 35 & still single, so I might as well join the “single girls club”

Because I never win anything!!! And my lover and I need a good night out to get a mental break from schooling and working!

I’d love to win because I am committed to supporting the local economy in any way that I can – this means spreading the word about local arts and food. And, I would promise to take an awesome Instagram picture if I win!

I am a single gal with no extra money this month to see this musical. I am a huge fan of theatre, musicals, Jane Austen and the English. By winning this dinner and a show you would make one gal and one of her single friends extremely happy. And I would pay it forward somehow.

Let’s see, there’s Ryan, Eric, Bret, Brian, Joe…the real question is why SHOULDN’T I win the tickets?!

As newly single girl I immediately checked out the premise when I saw the billboard and then I remembered, “Oh yeah, I have no money.” The show and dinner would be the perfect way to transition into this next part of my life.

I’m a SINGLE GAL (aka: Young Gay Guy) in need of a advice (guide) to get a man! This show sounds like a perfect fit. Plus… I can invite a future gentleman caller (boyfriend) for a date night at some of the best establishments in DT Albany (Old English & Cap Rep). PICK ME!!! <3

I should win because I’ve lived in Albany for 35 years and just realized Capital Rep isn’t a cool looking parking garage.

2) Because I love Old English

I’ve never been to Capital Rep, but I’ve always wanted to go. This seems like the perfect surprise gift for my newly divorced gf! It would totally make her day if I took her out to a delicious dinner and a great show!

I should win this prize because not only do I love musicals and fish & chips (both in one night?! Be still my heart), but I have a fabulous friend who is still single for some reason and deserves a fun girls night (with me, of course) after the douchbagery that has been her love life as of late.
Plus we both love dogs.

I should win because I feel the same way that you do about babies, beer, and dogs!

I should win for the following reasons:
A) I have a 3 year anniversary coming up in a week, thats scary. I’ve never committed to anything for three years in my life.WHEW.I deserve a prize.
B) I never win ANYTHING. I was nominated for peoples choice awards at waterworks for the Best Fag Hag…and I lost…by 4 votes. That really ruffled my tutu.
C) I thank you EVERY year for my birthday margarita via Twitter. I have Manners.
D) Once, You gave me a free Lambrusco at Wolff’s, it was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted & essentially, that makes us BFFs. (and I clearly thanked you then as well, please refer to above statement)
E) I have been to EVERY establishment of yours EXCEPT Olde English. How cool would I feel going for free? SUPER COOL.

Because having a fairly new baby, the opportunity to go out and have “adult conversation” doesn’t happen often… and well after reading your baby post probably won’t happen… so what’s better than a night out to enjoy a musical where baby talk just cannot happen because we would be entertained by a show.

because I am OFFICIALLY over this #$%^&* Winter and I need to get out of the house and have some fun

Because the BF has spent the last 3 months putting together a play by/for 5th graders and is close to going over the edge. There is a definite need to hear some adult conversation and see the end result of someone else’s directorial efforts.

I should win because the only other time I saw a show there, I had the runs so bad, I was forced to get up in the middle of the show to go to the bathroom. The comedian on stage actually stopped the show and waited for me! This is a true story. I had cramps so bad and took way too long in the bathroom. Unbeknownst to me, there was one usher standing out side the bathroom door and another one at the entrance to the theater, both ALSO waiting for me because I was holding up the enitre show. I opened the door to the bathroom and the first usher said, “come on, hurry up!”. I had no idea what the problem was, why I had to hurry or what was going on? The other usher at the door started waving at the stage signaling I was on my way…. and I still had no idea what was going on. I walked into the theater and realized immediately what was going on. You want to see someone feel like shrinking under a table…. it was me at that moment. He threw a few jokes my way, along the lines of “about time”, “hope everything is OK now”, “Are you ok” and “feel better” kinda stuff. According to my friends I was with, he stalled quiet well, and kept everyone entertained, so much so that a few people actually told me “I DID GOOD” because they thought I was part of the show!!! So, I think after that embarrassing moment, I am finally ready to return to Capital Rep for a second show, but this time I will be sure to relieve myself early…… and NOT at the Olde English Pub!!! :) That, my friend, it the gods honest truth!

Would love to go because I’m in my mid-30s and neither me nor any of my friends are single any more. Though blissfully married of course, we need to remember the days of being feral cats rather than house cats. What memories.

I would love to go because Capital Rep and The Olde English are two things that hang out at the top list of reasons why Albany is great. They’re right below pickle backs…because pickle backs get their own entry.

I have missed Friday Puppy, so it would be great to celebrate it’s resurrection! I haven’t been to Capital Rep in ages and would love to go again AND have been dying to get to Olde English and haven’t made it yet! Plus, I am a single girl!

Because I’ve picked up too many guys at the biergarten in the past year (the EuroCup was a good streak for me) who have turned out to be lame so I think it’s time to give Olde English a shot.
