Oktoberfest 5K Race.

If you’ve ever been to North Albany’s Oktoberfest block party, you’ve probably said to yourself, “you know what, I wish I had ran a 5k race before drinking all this german beer.”

Well you are IN LUCK.

We had a meeting this past week with a well known local gentleman who is working on coordinating an Oktoberfest themed 5K foot race that starts and ends at the Biergarten!

I, for one, love the idea.

It’s just in the development stage and hasn’t yet been approved by the city, but we’re working on it.

As someone who was born and raised in Utica, NY (me!), I have the fondest, haziest memories of  the Boilermaker race, which you might know, finished at the Saranac Brewery.  It was a huge party at the end of the race, and it was awesome.

More details to come about Oktoberfest and the race, but if you have any suggestions or any good names for this race, please let me know.

North Albany’s Oktoberfest is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 5th.   Save the date!

why not call it the “Oktoberfest Straßenrennen (5K)” (which google translates as from “oktoberfest road race”)

…also, it might be a good idea to pair up with a local charity? no ideas off hand, just a thought.

This is a great idea! It’s also a potentially great opportunity to highlight the nearby Mohawk-Hudson bike/hike trail and promote a walkable, bikeable Livingston Avenue Railroad Bridge.

This would be great! Have you talked with anyone from the Albany Running Exchange? I run a bunch of races and they are often timing them. They have their shit together and always start the race on time.

You may have a tough time scheduling it that day. Race for the Cure is already being run uphill, which takes away a lot of the resources (and runners and volunteers) that you’d want at your race. Just a thought. I love the idea of the race, though.
