A martini is a terrible thing to waste.

Vote for Roy McDonald.

I typically stay away from writing about political stuff because it gets everyone all sorts of worked up, but I feel that it would be wrong for me to not endorse Roy McDonald as the Republican candidate in tomorrow’s primary.

As you may have seen, there have been a lot of stories recently (most notably in the New York Times today) about Roy McDonald’s primary race tomorrow.

My friend Sara who works in government, and who’s opinion I respect, was texting me today about him and this is what she has to say about him, “He has a proven history of lowering taxes, job creating, and supporting veterans and people with special needs.”

Also, as you may or may not know, Roy McDonald voted in FAVOR of marriage equality, which is obviously super awesome.

His Republican opponent, Kathleen Marchione, sounds a little wacky.  She has very little experience, and it pretty much basing an entire campaign on same sex marriage (which has already passsed in NY State.  Get over it.)

If you are a registered Republican who lives in the 43rd district, please consider voting for Roy McDonald in tomorrow’s Republican primary.

Good luck, Roy.

I definitely think it’s appropriate for you to support Roy on your blog. His vote was a big reason Gay Marriage passed in NY. Not sure how much your billboard influenced him, but I like to think that it did. I’m not Republican, but I plan on voting for him, if he makes the general election. We need to show support for these canidates that voted with their concious, rather than the party line.

I agree wholeheartedly. I’m not in hs district and I am a far left guy, but he stepped away from the party line and voted for the equality bill. Right on and down with predjudices, across the board.

He lied to his constituency = No vote from me.
Unfortunately, the grass isn’t greener on the other side. She does seem nutty.
I just hope all the Liberal Left support he is receiving now in the primary carries over to the election when he is running against a Dem.

@ lori, I agree there is something about her that makes me uncomfortable too………

Sorry – Roy voted for the State furloughs – meaning we lost over a week’s worth of pay – yet at the same time voted to give himself a raise along with his staff. I’m all for marriage equality – but when you take food off my children’s plate – well that’s a deal breaker for me for sure.

    @novoteforroy

I’m glad to see voters think through their votes – that’s how democracy functions at its best.

Only you’re wrong on both counts. First, the furloughs moved through the Democrat controlled Senate in 2010 as part of Paterson’s budget extender were not voted for by McDonald (or any other Republican). Second, there has been no vote for a legislator pay raise.

    Thanks for staying informed!

    @ lori – I completely agree!!!

@ novoteforroy – Technically, you didn’t lose anything as you’ll get that money back starting in April 2014. And, the agreement that was voted on by the legislature was the result of negotiations between the Governor’s office and your union heads. It’s a stretch to blame McDonald. Regardless, if you don’t vote for McDonald, who do you plan to vote for?

@ dt – I don’t recall Paterson having any success with the furloughs. I thought he was tied by the then-existing contract and ended up doing layoffs instead. I think the furloughs currently in place are a result of the union contract negotiations with Cuomo in 2011.

@Katie, telling someone they didn’t lose anything because they will get their money back in a year or so could only come from someone who has never had a zero account balance that could not be remedied by a call to parents or just putting stuff on a credit card. your comment shows real ignorance about what it is like for people who are just trying to make ends meet every month. As the spouse of a state worker with two kids, what has amounted to a 3ish% paycut has been really rough on us.
That said, I would support McDonald if I were in his district since I support equality.
