I haven’t been drinking for a week or so, but tonight I decided to take a dip back in.
I just want to say 3 things about this past week. Â I don’t know who reads this blog anymore. Â Some days it’s 28 people. Â Some days it’s 18,000 people.
But these three things are on my mind:
1.  We clearly need to get rid of the guns.  A gun here and there for hunting is fine  (I guess), but anything other than a hunting rifle should not be allowed.  We can no longer handle it as a civilization. And anyone who wants an assault rifle, anyway, should be put in prison, no questions asked.
2. Â Sally Ride, the astronaut who just died, was a lesbian. Â She had a partner for 30 years. Â I know most of you think that gay rights have came a long way, but they haven’t. Â Federally is where it counts. Â NOT state by state. Â Until it’s legal on the federal level, most typical rights straight couples enjoy as a married couple do not apply.
3. Â I like Kristen Stewart. Â 70% of people in relationships have cheated. Â Relax tweens. Â You’ll cheat.

You know I read every day, maybe my life is as pathetic as yours. But I don’t drink, so I’m really pathetic.
Agree with gun point (little sick play on words, there). Why do we even sell assault rifles?
Why did Sherman Helmsley’s death get more attention than Sally Ride’s? That I wish didn’t happen. Sally was a real crusader. Personally and professionally.
Kristen Stewart? Have only seen her in print pictures – never saw any of her movies. Ekkk so far.

I have similar feelings about the Kristen Stewart scandal, but you LIKE her? As in, you actually like her public persona or her acting? No. Just no. But I guess that’s a topic ripe for a drunken argument at another time…

“Assault rifles” (primarily the AR-15 and its variants) possibly the most popular firearm in the US. It is the favored firearm for the rifle part of 3-gun competitions as well as various types long distance shooting competitions. It is also one of the best types of rifles for varmint and predator hunting. Don’t let the actions of a few idiots remove a Constitutional right from the law abiding. Remember over 300,000,000 guns in the US were not used to kill someone last weekend. (Don’t blame guns for deaths if you wouldn’t blame a spoon for making people fat.)

I read all the time. Agree, agree, agree. And I drink.
Hopeful. I agree Sally should have gotten more press but I LOVED the Jefferson’s when I was a little kid to the point that my brother calls me wheezie to this day and am glad that Sherman was remembered.
Bryan. While I don’t want to start a great gun debate and don’t think they should be outlawed completely, competitors are not part of the general public in my opinion so they would not be affected just as law enforcement would not be. When the constitution was written these types of weapons did not exist and neither did these types of crimes (coincidence?). Varmints (can’t believe we are using that word – I feel like Elmer Fudd!) can be killed in many ways and an assault Rigel is not needed to get rid of them. Like I said not trying to start a great debate I value your opinion and just wanted to share mine.

One day a guy was driving down the road and was pulled over by a state trooper. The state trooper approached his car and noticed a rifle hanging in the back window of his pick up truck. While legal, the state trooper still decided to ask about guns. When asked if there were any more with him in the car the guy replied:
‘Yes sir there is. There is a revolver in the glove box, pistols on my hip and ankle, and an assault rifle under the seat. Permits for all that need them sir.’
The state trooper was taken back a moment and asked ‘Sir, what in the world are you afraid of?’
The guy replied: ‘Not a fuc&in’ thing’

just saw this post and agree on all three points.
i would add to #1 that an abundance of guns (legally and illegally attainable) and a healthcare system that doesn’t provide enough resources for the mentally ill (or those who suspect they are mentally ill, or those whose families suspect they are mentally ill, etc.) is a particularly dangerous combination in this country.
to #3, i love how ridiculously innocuous k-stew’s “tryst” seems to have been (atleast for her, not so much for the married guy with two kids) and how utterly devastating it is to the entire universe. calm down everybody, it’s gonna be okay.

Point number 2 is so important – most people don’t think about the rights afforded to partners (gay or straight) after the marriage. I feel for Sally’s partner who is left standing like she was “just a friend.”
I also agree on point 3 – she’s 22. You live, you learn.

“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so.”
– Hitler, April 11 1942
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms..disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one.” – Thomas Jefferson
“Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest.” — Mahatma Gandhi
