BTW beeswax – that church in Watervliet was completely renovated a few years ago! It is untrue that the building is in bad shape.

I get preserving history to a certain level, but when the actual owners of the property say “yeah, it should go” then it’s time to let it go. Same with that Watervliet church that’s being proposed as a site for a grocery store. It was a beautiful building, but would cost literally millions to renovate and the owner doesn’t have it, and is fine razing it.

Hold on tightly, let go lightly.

It’s the owner, Don Boyajian, that wants to take them down, and it’s because they are a liability. It has nothing to do with the new Bombers.They are unique becuase they are the longest block of all wooden buildings left in Troy, but they are in terrible condition. It would probably take a $1 million to save them. I agree that all of the critics should pool their money and buy the buildings if they want them to be saved.

Why do people lose their minds over historic buildings? I live in Saratoga where people would rather let decrepit old buildings literally sit and rot than tear them down. I have a tremendous appreciation for history but I also appreciate practicality. Boarded up homes look appealing to nobody. Even our bums won’t squat there.
You have done GREAT things to North Albany and will do wonderful things to Troy. God knows it needs a facelift.
