LED Menus at 677 Prime.

Behold the new menus at 677 Prime.

I hate LED lights.  There, I said it.

I mean, I appreciate what they do for our environment, but I hate (see above) the way it looks.

If I am dating someone and he suggests that we put LED lights up around the Christmas tree, I think to myself or out loud, “well that was fun.  Now leave.”

Needless to say (Christmas tree pun), I am not loving the new menus at 677 Prime.  I love the items on the menu, and it’s still easily one of my favorite restaurants in Albany, but I think those menus are a little weird.

What do you think?

    Just a gimmick, Mr. B.

I don’t get out much…how do they work? Like a refrigerator? You open and the light turns on?

It’s something I would expect to see at that weird Mars restaurant in Times Square, not at one of the nicer restaurants in Albany. Granted I haven’t been recently so I only have your photo to rely on, but not a fan.

Nothing wrong with LEDs, just the strange ways that people use them. Not liking this idea at all…..

Very cool! A great idea for those of us who can’t read in the dark all too well!

Maybe they did it so the menus are easy to read? Perhaps there are no lights and the clientele are all over 70.

But I agree, weird, gimmicky. Not a fan.

I agree! I ate there on Tuesday with some friends, and we all thought the menus were weird. The restaurant is fairly dark with beautiful, soft, dim lighting. Then you open your menu, and everything is suddenly cast in that harsh, blue light. Awful. And, I couldn’t help but feel like George Hamilton.

There’s definitely a “cool factor” to LED menus, but I agree, it’s not a fit for 677 Prime, unless they’re transitioning to a Star Trek theme. Anyway Matt, LEDs have come a long way from the bright, bluish lights you see on Christmas trees. They’re now available for household lamps and fixtures and come in different color renderings. However, they have a high up-front cost, but on the other hand, they use a fraction of energy compared to incandescent bulbs, have no mercury like the CFLs, and can last you up 20 years. Give one a try in your favorite lamp/fixture. You’ll be retired before you ever have to change it!

Maybe a small light at the top when you open it? Like a small version of a painting/picture light? Did I just give away a million dollar idea….

Not a fan! Just looking at the pictures it seems obnoxiously bright. If there is a way to dim them for people that are sensitive to blue light it might be better. I keep my iPad and cell on the lowest brightness because my eyes are sensitive to the light they cast.

Love them and the new menu items too.

Love the idea! I always have trouble reading the menu in dim lit restaurants. I’m the guy that uses the light from his cell phone just to read the menu. Finally a solution!

By no means hijack this specific thread, yet we want to search for some good source of LED equipment and lighting retail outlet for our newly redesigned condo. We have no idea who is excellent and who is not…have you any idea anything regarding this LED Light online store? They are based out of California, as well as offer totally free shipping and tax-free for us. I cannot find any reviews upon them – Green Supply LLC, 43575 Mission Blvd., #510, Fremont, CA 94539 – 1 (800)860-1387
