I know manicures have been around since 5th Avenue, but the turn that ‘nail art’ has taken recently makes me hate the fact that I have horrible nail beds – the picture above is a friend’s hand. I wanna go all Claude Monet on those bitches.
I remember being in grade school when no one judged if you didn’t stay in the lines all the way (except for my three older sisters), and I would paint my nails 3 different colors. Which is like all the rage now. I challenge you to find a fashion blog that doesn’t have a picture of their perfectly manicured hands – with at least one finger painted a different color (not a real challenge).  I always knew I was a trendsetter.
Anyway, I’ve seen everything from tye-dye (um, awesome) to smurfs to strawberries on people’s fingers and I wonder how much people are actually paying for this. Because nail polish doesn’t last very long, even if you don’t bite your nails. And if you do them yourself, that must be craaaazy time consuming. Who has time to do that multiple times a week? Multiple times a month?! I want your job.
I definitely do appreciate that nail polish is a cheap way to accessorize, though. What do you guys think of all the artful manicures?

Rarely even notice but when I do, not particularly impressed. Many other ways for a woman to make herself attactive, IMHO.

Love ‘em. Cute and fun. I want the strawberries.
The girls I know with fun nails generally do the manicures themselves. I’d imagine they do them in the winding-down portion of the evening, maybe while watching Conan or something. True, the Smurf design would take a long time, but I’ll bet the strawberry design takes less than an hour.

In high school (back in them ‘crylics days) I had a squirrel airbrushed onto my nail. I also once did white nails with black tips – I called them “michael jackson feet” (visualizing the white socks, black loafers look) and I would make my fingers moonwalk. That might’ve been college :/

I think sometimes they’re pretty, but after a day….yesterday’s news. For the record….I’ve NEVER had a manicure or pedicure. Nails longer than in the picture gross me out though.

I’m with Dave. Don’t like the look. Fine for girls, but for a grown woman? Not so much. I can only imagine what my clients would think next time I attended a meeting with a smurf on my nail. LOL
As we say in NYC, the look is very “bridge and tunnel.”

Unless you are Katy Perry, Zooey Deschanel, or 14 years old or younger…its totally too much. I think a well manicured nail can be sexy, but anything more than a simple color (all the same) or french style screams immaturity to me. I’m looking to get laid, not baby sit. Also, all those colors and sparkles suggest “high maintenance”. If you need your nails to draw my attention, you’re already not hot enough for me…still waiting for Lianne’s bigger picture below.

It’s funny (and a little sad) that some guys think the purpose of every element of a woman’s style is to attract them. They seem to think a woman believes that her reason for existence is to “catch” a mate.
See: “If you need your nails to draw my attention, you’re already not hot enough for me”
And: “Many other ways for a woman to make herself attactive, IMHO.”

Kerosena – right on! I paint my nails fun colors because it’s FUN! I have done some of the mainicures I’ve found through Pinterest (are you on there? You SHOULD be!). This (http://pinterest.com/pin/198088083579687429/) is a good one because it’s fun, but is subtle enough to not be noticable across the boardroom table. ;-) It’s actually easier than the other ones you linked to.
