OK, listen up. This is Matt’s aunt who can honestly attest to the fact that Matt is as caring and considerate toward his family as he is toward his community. He is a man of integrity who leads with his heart and will go the distance to be fair and generous.

I work at a University in Philadelphia and recently met a woman from Albany whose son went to our college. I mentioned Matt and she just raved on and on about what a great community builder he is and how much he’s done for Albany. It made me proud to say he was my nephew.

He’s a great guy who benefited from having two great parents who taught him the importance of family and community and conveyed positive work ethics and strong interpersonal values . He took the ball and ran with it. Oh yes, he has a great aunt too, not that I can take any credit at all, other than loving and pulling for him. He inspires ME TOO, folks.

Your bars/restaurants/love of Albany is one of the few things that makes living here again tolerable. (I recently moved back after a few years in New York City and the adjustment has been rough). I was really happy to see you bought the Miss Albany Diner because that assures that it will not be turn into another blighted building. Everything you touch in this town turns to gold, and we’re all very grateful for it. Keep touching things!

I just assumed right from the first when I heard the news that you were buying the property to help a friend and neighbor out so she could retire. I couldn’t believe all the nastiness and how many people who obviously can’t read. It was stated clearly that the owner was retaining ownership of the name of the diner and the recipes and you were only buying the building and land, yet tons of people criticized you for not keeping it open. Ah well, no good deed goes unpunished. I don’t know you personally, but I’m sure you’ll do the right thing with the building and the land when the timing is right.

Are there times you could probably check your ego at the door? Probably. Is humility a lesson we should all take the time to learn and relearn? Absofuckinglutely. But do me and the capital region a favor and pat yourself on your back. I often feel like this area is a constant uphill battle with the cultivation of a good social life. Restaurants, bars, clubs, galleries, cafes, etc. have such short life spans. Your record clearly shows you’ve got what it takes to draw a crowd and keep a breath of hope in the Albany scene’s ability to survive.

Hey Matt,
I thought it was worth pointing out that the diner has been for sale for a few years. In fact, on November 11, 2009 you blogged about it. http://www.troyinteractivemetrics.com/fp_dev1/index.php/2009/11/11/buy-this-business/

I think it was crappy that the TU stated that the sale was unexpected and unfair for people to give you a hard time about not keeping it as a diner, when the owners only sold the building and not the business.

I must say, I was not a fan of TS either UNTIL I went to the Grammys this year. The pretelecast ceremony when she actually received her Grammy for the song Mean was priceless. She explained why she wrote it. Then, to have her actually sing the song at the event itself AND change the words….it was one of the best parts I thought. :)

I agree. Total jealousy in this area. Matt started from scratch. It’s not like his father handed him a restaraunt. I remember during my younger years a very fat kid who’s father owns an Albany restaraunt was real arrogant towards me. He actually made a gay comment to me when I’m not even gay. It’s so satisfying to see this over weight gorilla in public photos standing in his fathers shadow. I’d never step foot in this restaraunt because of what the slob said. Matt, don’t get mad get even. Laugh all the way to the bank like I do.

People are jealous of you. It amazes me the small minded people that live in this area. I recently had someone vehemently attack my hair style. I thought to myself, if all they can talk about is my hair, I must be doing pretty well. I love successful people who make it. Unfortunately a lot of people never make it and have to accept just being average. Keep up the great work!
