Cool experience this morning; I was out walking my dog in Washington Park when a familiar face walked by with their dog. I paused, looked at the retreating back and said, “Siobhan?” She and I had a nice chat about writing for the blog and meeting each other years ago at Macy’s.
I understand that the fashion week blog posts aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and as a FridayPuppy.com reader I have my own opinions about what writing style and format fits the blog best (in addition to my obvious and self-serving TEAM CARLENE!! vote). That said, thank you, Matt, for creating a community where I can meet someone in the park and talk about something we’re both involved in. Between the businesses and the blog, you’re making Albany a really cool place to live.

What’s with all the Fashion Smashin??
Sure, I’d rather be reading anxiety ridden stories about burritos and weed too, but give the dude props for introducing another piece to the friday pupzzle. I think a fashion can fit in this blog just fine… as long as it stays funny and isn’t solely informative. Leave that shit in the check-out isle at Pchop.
So my vote (Are we casting votes here or what?) is for the post thats clever and fit in with this blog’s sense of humor. Carlene hit it with the whole “vaginas aren’t accessories concept.”
You can’t really dress them up, so don’t take them out in public.

As a woman who reads FP religiously – I say, ‘Bravo!’ for adding a fashion blogger. I haven’t commented yet on my favorite as I’m waiting to read all them. Are uou going to do one big poll after Thursday’s 2 entrys?
Iwould be so excited if the blogger could do a FP-esque Fashion police like they do in Glamour – where the woman’s eyes are blacked out but the writer talks about her outfit. That would be so fun! Rock on Matt – I will keep reading and supporting your awesome businesses! ;)

“then don’t read the blog this week. Go fix a barn.”. Classic. I’m not hatin’ fashion but the writing is just bad so far and two posters managed to mention the Kardashians, that made my laptop shutdown and cry in a corner. More often than not new blogs are either: “things I ate today”, or “things I wore today”, food blogs and women’s fashion blogs are legions locally. With that being said, a men’s fashion column could work for me, but it doesn’t seem to be going in that direction. Maybe today’s contributions…
Broken Barn Industries Nov 17, 2011 at 9:58 am
Way to diss a regular reader trying to give you polite, constructive criticism, Matt. Fashion blogs are so boring and overdone. Why don’t you do something fun, interesting AND different?
Matt Nov 17, 2011 at 10:15 am
@ Broken Barn Industries. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. What would you suggest for the blog that you would consider to be fun, interesting AND different, and I’ll try to make it happen.
Carlene Nov 17, 2011 at 11:29 am
@-S – I’d love to write about men’s fashion and considered it for the first article; I find it as interesting as women’s fashion, especially since unlike women’s clothing, men’s clothes can easily bridge the gap and be worn stylishly by either sex. I can’t speak for my and the other fashion blogger’s crappy writing, though; I apologize for my contribution to the suck.
@Matt – If I think of this as reader versus blogger “hopeful,” it would be interesting to have a main fashion blogger with contributing writers from time to time, to keep it fresh. I loved the DIY idea and there are days when I simply NEED a dose of couture, while overall I’d prefer an “everyday style” writer.

Although there has been some other strong entries, I’m all for Siobhan (blog #2). She is fashion forward, has her own personal style and knows how to inspire others. Im just sayin :)

I don’t have a horse in this race other than as a reader, but really liked Carlene’s November fashion entry and found it to fit in the best with the irreverent and smart Friday Puppy style. My second choice would be Emily (the ladylike post.) I really liked the ombre stockings post but it didn’t particularly seem to fit with the rest of the contributors.
Jenn C Nov 17, 2011 at 11:46 pm
Not a bad showing for Fashion Week. Regarding the threads of continuity in the posts, I think the potential bloggers were writing to the demographic that Matt stated in his initial help wanted post, “drunk women between the ages of 18-25.”
This might explain the girl-geared composition. But I’m curious; the comments I’ve read thus far seem reminiscent of wo/men ages 23 – 35, but don’t quote me on that.
My faves were Ladylike or Hola Ombre If I had to choose… give me a minute – I’m thinking. Hmm… Oh forget it, you choose.
