Hey.
So we’re trying to put together the music for The Olde English Pub which is scheduled to open in early September.
Because it’s an English pub, I’m thinking it should be heavy on all the amazing British bands over the years (Beatles, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Queen, The Who, etc.).  and maybe throw in some of the great female artists from England  (Adele, Amy Winehouse, The Spice Girls.)  just kidding.  although I did see their movie IN THE THEATER in 1997.
If you have any suggestions for good English music you think should be played at The Olde English Pub, please leave us a suggestion.
Thanks so much.

I think you should be replicating the pub experience, where in my experience music is in the background, not the foreground. Given that I think it would be cool to notice an old Kinks, Clash, or Housemartins song mixed in with newer music.

The Kinks! Totally the most under appreciated band of all time. Scott walker is pretty awesome too.

the Kaiser Chiefs & the Style Council should make your patrons want to commit a riot while shouting to the top!

As a huge anglophile, I definitely have suggestions! You’ve probably thought of many of them before, but as for food, I would love to see scotch eggs, sunday roast, Cornish pasties, and steak and mushroom pie, maybe some curry dishes in there too. For music, you’ve really hit all the greats there, I would only add Robbie Williams. His music is loads of fun.

If you’re looking for some party/bar tunes that represent the UK, go with anything by:
Happy Mondays, The Cure, Human League, New Order, Joy Division.
Look up Madchester.

Maybe some old(e) and new brit bands / artists? I’d have to agree with Chris V that having older, fantastic songs pop in and out in between some more casual tunes would really make the older songs shine a little bit. Music definitely isn’t everything though, don’t rack your brain too hard. I don’t go to the biergarten for the music, which can be a little off the wall at times.

All the pubs I went to in England seemed to play more American music than anything. Beach Boys seemed to be the most played. So, if you’re trying to replicate an authentic English pub experience, there you go.

Led Zeppelin-obvious, The Cult, The English Beat, Yes,The Police..Although technically Stewart Copeland is American, but whatever-He was an army brat & lived in England for a while..

Please do this right Matt… I really think Stout dropped the ball on the Irish pub experience, which was expected. Based on my experience at the Biergarten, I’m confident that we’ll get that olde english pub feel. Abbot Ale on tap!

Speaking as Robbie Williams, which I most certainly am, I would recommend the best-selling British solo artist in the United Kingdom, Robbie Williams. If you have additional room I might recommend some hits from my pop group Take That, then again I may not.
Cheers mate.

I didn’t think anyone else would mention Fairport and R & L Thompson! But it’s all good, from pre-Beatles to present day, just mix it all up and don’t leave anything out.

If you include Oasis, you’ve got to have Shed Seven in there too. Little known and underrated here in the States, but the best thing out of York since the pudding.

There are quite a few around the shoreline reached when one walks from the North Channel bridge parking lot to the area across from JFK … no hatchlings yet, though. Do you know when they’d come out?
