One of the questions I get asked a lot by perfect strangers is, “how is your tree doing?” Â To which I reply, “who let you into my house??!”
They ask because when I was once writing a blog for The Times Union, I wrote a blog post about how my magnolia tree was dying and how sad it was making me. Â (apparently I had writer’s block).
BUT, as you can see in the video above… the tree is alive and doing very well. Â Thank god.
It’s a very old magnolia tree, and when it blooms it is breathtaking. Â The whole garden smells so beautiful right now. Â The only problem with magnolia trees is that they bloom for such a short time. But when they do, it’s truly magnificent.
p.s. Happy Birthday, dad.

It would never occur to me to make a video of a tree, but somehow it works. They aren’t exactly the most forthcoming interview subjects.

Is it as fragrant as it looks? (That sounds classier than “Does it smell?”)
