A martini is a terrible thing to waste.

My magnolia tree.

One of the questions I get asked a lot by perfect strangers is, “how is your tree doing?”  To which I reply, “who let you into my house??!”

They ask because when I was once writing a blog for The Times Union, I wrote a blog post about how my magnolia tree was dying and how sad it was making me.  (apparently I had writer’s block).

BUT, as you can see in the video above… the tree is alive and doing very well.  Thank god.

It’s a very old magnolia tree, and when it blooms it is breathtaking.  The whole garden smells so beautiful right now.  The only problem with magnolia trees is that they bloom for such a short time. But when they do, it’s truly magnificent.

p.s. Happy Birthday, dad.

It would never occur to me to make a video of a tree, but somehow it works. They aren’t exactly the most forthcoming interview subjects.

Is it as fragrant as it looks? (That sounds classier than “Does it smell?”)

I remember when you thought this tree wasn’t going to make it…so glad it has.
