Not too long ago I decided I needed a “new†pickup truck. The one that I had was falling apart, and I need a truck to haul around hundreds of pounds of Monterey jack cheese and picnic tables.
I wanted a black, Dodge Ram 1500 V-8 Magnum with a short bed. I beat the hell out of my old truck, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a new one. So I went shopping for a used one.
I HATE bargaining (or haggling. or whatever it’s called). It makes me break out in hives. It’s like, just tell me what the price is, and if I like it, I’ll pay it. But to ask to pay a lower price feels uncomfortable to me. I guess I wouldn’t mind bargaining via text messaging or email (because then I would’nt have to look at their face).
I went to a few used car dealerships and I couldn’t find what I was looking for. I tried looking online, and somehow ended up on eBay.
To make a long story short (probably too late), I ended up buying my truck on eBay. It was exactly the truck I was looking for. It was super cheap and it had low miles, and it looked like it was in really good shape.
But the down side was the truck was in Springfield, MA and was being sold by some random guy. And I couldn’t test drive it because I already bought it. And when I went to pick it up, it didn’t have plates or a registration sticker. Or gas. And the check engine light was on. And it had one of those weird religious fish car ornaments (probably my biggest concern).
But at the end of the day, the truck was great. And it turned out to be a really good experience (save the “driving back on I-90 without plates or registration†part. That was a little scary). However, I would absolutely buy another car or truck on eBay. I’d probably try to find one a little closer to home, but whatever. These days, who’s even buying new cars and trucks??
HOWEVER, last month one of the Bombers workers flipped our catering van (no one was hurt thank God), and fortunately the insurance company “totaled itâ€, so we could get another one. I ended up buying a great van at Quinn Motor Car on Rte 43 in Averill Park. Those guys are the best. The salesman, Nick, was so friendly and professional. It truly was a great auto buying experience. Thank you, Quinn!
